The post-Selmer Buescher saxophones are essentially Selmer Bundy saxophones. In fact, Selmer retained most all of the Buescher factory workers. The key posts were increased in height in order to. All long rods and cross hinges were fabricated from nickel silver for increased rigidity and better wear. Production barely skipped a beat after the acquisition. The new 400 offered several radical improvements over previous designs: a new neck featured an underslung octave key and a leakproof one piece mouthpipe and reciever ring. They had already purcahsed Harry Peddler & Sons in 1959 and acquired the Vincent Bach Corporation, Mount Vernon, New York in September of 1961. The Selmer board and shareholders were also in acqusition mode. In 1963, it was mostly a turn-key operation that Selmer felt they could greatly expand upon. Furthermore, a dealer network was already established. The Buescher factory was already tooled for saxophone production and a great deal of past advertising and goodwill had gone into the Buescher saxophone since the 1920's. One of the major reasons for this purcahse was that Selmer planned to enter into saxophone manufacturing. I'm always trying to improve this site.On Febuary 1 of 1963 the Buescher Band Instrument Company along with all of its inventories, tooling, factory space, and dealer contracts was purchased by H & A Selmer. Everything looks super sharp and well taken care of. After the War Buescher seems to have dropped the "Aristocrat" from Custom Built, on horn engravings and in its sales literature. Has some very nice engraving on the bell, comes with multiple slides looks like one is missing but not sure if thats the one that is currently in the horn, two mouth pieces, a sheet-music holder and the original case.

Also at this time of redesign, the nickel silver highlights that were standard in the Custom Built models became an "option", not the standard feature. The Custome Built models took on a WIDER wrap looking less like "Pea-Shooters" and more like modern trumpets. Conn s fledgling band instrument factory. In the 1935, Buescher introduced the "Aristocrat Custom Built" as their TOP of the line model, in 1939 the "400" was introduced and became the NEW top of the line model, and the Aristocrat and the Aristocrat Custom Built were redesigned at that time. The company was founded by Ferdinand August 'Gus' Buescher (born Elk Township, Noble County, Ohio 26 April 1861 died Elkhart, Indiana 29 November 1937). So one- and two-digit model numbers became 3-digit model numbers all starting with 2 for trumpets and cornets Some time in the late 20s, Buescher renumbered their horns. Some models I only have 1 or 2 entries for, so I don't have much of a range to go on. I have done these by looking at my makeshift database. The "Years Produced" dates below are FAR from accurate.
